| Diabetes Interdisciplinary Research Programs (DIRPs) |
JDF has accelerated the progress toward a cure by developing a new model of diabetes research funding: public/private partnerships, which have enabled Diabetes Interdisciplinary Research Programs (DIRPs). These Programs, typically five-year projects with funding up to $5 million, team world-class diabetes researchers with scientists specializing in molecular biology, genetics, biophysics, immunology and other cutting-edge areas of medical science.
JDF-sponsored Diabetes Interdisciplinary Research Programs focus on many critical steps along our road to the cure, including:
JDF, in partnership with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), has already funded 14 Interdisciplinary Research Programs. Additional Programs, to be funded with other Institutes of the National Institutes of Health as well as with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Medical Research Council of Canada, will begin work soon. JDF is committed to further sponsorship of innovative, collaborative, diabetes research efforts around the world until we find a cure.
